There is no sugar-coating its mandate: Au Contraire is a film festival on mental illness. The third edition, running Tuesday, Oct. 27 to Friday, Oct. 30 at the Maxwell Cummings Auditorium in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, will once again showcase films that challenge the myths and change the perceptions surrounding mental illness.

Nor is there any shortage of material in the field. Festival founder Philip Silverberg and director Marcel Pinchevsky were inundated with 400 submissions from around the world – more than double the number from last year – and have selected three features and eight short films, in English and French, for this year’s program. Five of the entries are Canadian premières.
